Victoria Skilled Visa Nomination 2026–27: Subclass 190 Open with 900 Places and Key Updates
Victoria opened its 2026–27 skilled visa nomination program for subclass 190 Registrations of Interest (ROIs) on 26 October 2026, with 900 nomination places available.
For skilled migrants considering Victoria, the reopening brings several important updates, including the Victorian Points Test, new application fees and the requirement to submit a fresh ROI.
Here is what applicants should know before preparing their next steps.
Subclass 190 Is Open; Subclass 491 Remains Closed
Victoria is accepting ROIs for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190).
However, its 2026–27 allocation for the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491) has not yet been finalised. Victoria is therefore not currently accepting subclass 491 ROIs. Applicants should monitor the official website for further announcements.
Who Can Be Considered for Victorian Nomination?
Applicants must meet both Home Affairs visa requirements and Victoria’s nomination criteria. Key requirements include:
- Living in Victoria or overseas.
- Being committed to living and working in Victoria.
- Being under 45.
- Having at least Competent English.
- Holding a valid skills assessment for an eligible occupation.
- Having at least 65 federal points, including the five nomination points.
- Having their ROI selected before applying for nomination.
Onshore applicants living in another Australian state or territory are generally not considered, although Victoria allows some exceptions for border communities.
Employment is not mandatory for subclass 190 nomination, and Victoria does not impose a general minimum work experience or working-hours requirement.
How Does Victoria Rank Applicants?
Victoria uses the Victorian Points Test (VPT) to rank ROIs using seven factors: age, English, nominated-occupation experience, education, occupation skill level, partner skills and eligible Victorian earnings.
Selection considers the highest-scoring profiles across eligible occupations and within priority industries. Listed priority sectors include healthcare, social assistance, education and construction, with specific occupations identified.
The VPT has no fixed pass mark and is separate from the federal points test. Meeting basic eligibility does not guarantee selection.
Estimate Your VPT Score
Use our Victorian Points Test (VPT) Calculator to explore how each factor contributes to your estimated total.
A calculator can help you understand the scoring structure, but your result is not an invitation prediction or a complete eligibility assessment.
New ROI and Nomination Fees
The following fees apply for 2026–27:
| Application Stage | Excluding GST | Including GST |
| Registration of Interest | $60 | $66 |
| Subclass 190 nomination application | $180 | $198 |
GST applies when the applicant is in Australia at payment.
The nomination fee is payable only when an invited applicant submits a nomination application. The ROI fee is charged once per program year; withdrawing and resubmitting within that year does not attract another ROI fee.
Previous Applicants Need a New ROI
An ROI submitted in a previous program year does not carry over. Applicants seeking consideration in 2026–27 must submit a new ROI.
Before doing so, review your SkillSelect EOI and check that your qualifications, English results, employment and other claims remain accurate and supported by evidence.
