Benefits of the visa 482

  • Short-term stream:
    - Work in Australia for up to 2 years or up to 4 years if an international trade obligation (ito) applies. Hong Kong passport holders may stay up to 5 years
    - Travel to and from Australia as many times as you want while the visa is valid
    - If eligible, apply for the permanent residence: Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) or Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (subclass 187)
  • Medium-term stream:
    - Work in Australia for up to 4 years or up to 5 years if you are a Hong Kong passport holder
    - Study (you won't receive government assistance)
    - Travel to and from Australia as many times as you want while the visa is valid
    - If eligible, apply for the permanent residence: Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) or Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (subclass 187)
  • Labour agreement stream:
    - Work in Australian for up to 4 years for your sponsor or up to 5 years if you are a Hong Kong passport holder
    - Study (you won't receive government assistance)
    - Travel to and from Australia as many times as you want, while the visa is valid
    - If eligible, apply for the permanent residence: Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186)

Requirement

  • Short-term stream:
    - Your employer must have nominated you to fill an occupation specified on the Shor-Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL)
    - You must work for your nominating employer
    - You must have at least 2 years relevant work experience in the nominated occupation or a related field
    - You must undergo a mandatory skills assessment
    - You must have at leastCompetent English (IELTS 6.0 or PTE 50)
  • Medium-term stream:
    - Your employer must have nominated you to fill an occupation specified on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)
    - You must work for your nominating employer
    - You must have at least 2 years relevant work experience in the nominated occupation or a related field
    - You must undergo a mandatory skills assessment
    - You must have at leastCompetent English (IELTS 6.0 or PTE 50)
  • Labour agreement stream:
    - The nominated occupation must be the subject of a labour agreement between the Commonwealth and the nominator - You must have had at least 2 years of work experience in the nominated occupation or a related field unless varied by the terms of the labour agreement
    - English requirements may be specified in the Labour agreement between your employer and the Commonwealth

  • Medium-term stream: From AUD3,035.00
  • Labour Agreement stream: From AUD3,035.00

Processing Time

  • Sponsorship: 90% of applications are processed in 58 days.
  • Nomination: 90% of applications are processed in 13 days.
  • Short-term stream: 90% of applications are processed in 64 days.
  • Medium-term stream: 90% of applications are processed in 67 days.
  • Labour Agreement stream: 90% of applications are processed in 87 days

How to Apply for an Australian visa?

  • Step 1: Complete the Visa Application Form for sponsor via the online IMMI Account
  • Step 2: Employer approved to be a sponsor
  • Step 3: Employer nominates overseas worker (the applicant) for a skilled position
  • Step 4: Submit your skill assessment and get a positive outcome
  • Step 5: Gather your documents (identity, Skills assessment documents, etc)
  • Step 6: Complete the Visa Application Form
  • Step 7: Pay the Visa Application Fee
  • Step 8: Complete the biometrics collection and health examination

Can I change sponsors?

If you hold visa 482, you can transfer your sponsorship to a new employer.Your new sponsor will need to nominate you on visa 482.You cannot commence employment with your new sponsor until your nomination has been approved.This is currently taking approximately seven (7) business days

What does this visa allow you to do?

Visa 482 is a temporary visa that permits the holder to live in Australia while working full-time for the sponsoring employer in the nominated position. Applicants for visa 482 may include dependent members of the family unit. Family members, as a secondary dependent on the main visa 482 applicant, can enjoy unrestricted work rights whilst the holder of visa 482

Can 482 visas be extended?

Yes you can extend your 482 visa one time. After this you would need to look at different visa options.

Can 482 visa holder apply for permanent residency?

The 482 visa in itself is not a permanent visa. However if your occupation is on the MLTSSL, you could potentially look to apply for the 186 visa or 187 visa. Other permanent visa options include the 190 or 491. Or if you are living and working in a regional area, you could consider the Subclass 494 employer sponsored visa
