Frequently Asked Questions

If you don’t find an answer to your question below, feel free to get in touch with one of our agents, they will be more than happy to share their wisdom.

How do I register a patent in Australia?

The two types of patents granted in Australia are the standard patent and the innovation patent. Find out about the differences in the type of inventions they cover and the length of protection they offer.

Are incentives available for start-ups?

You can find out more about tax incentives available for early stage investors here: Tax incentives for early stage investors | Australian Taxation Office (ato.gov.au).

I have submitted an EOI and it’s been 3, almost 4, months now, and I haven’t received anything from the Global Talent Team. Should I submit a new EOI?

You should not submit a new Expression of Interest (EOI) via the Global Contact Form if you have already submitted an EOI that has been unfinalised. The Global Talent team is experiencing significant delays due to the increasing number of EOIs submitted and the ‘popularity’ of the visa program. You should wait until you receive a response from the Global Talent team. They will send you an email to notify you of the outcome of your EOI.

If I am not eligible under the Global Talent stream (GTIP), should I/can I still apply under the normal Distinguished Talent visa?

Yes. If you fall short of the Global Talent requirements but you may still be eligible under the normal Distinguished Talent visa criteria

What if I Cannot Find an Australian Nominator?

It is a legislative requirement for the subclass 858 Distinguished Talent Visa to identify an appropriate Australian nominator. If you cannot do so, you will not meet the criteria
