What is Visa 485?

Visa 485 is a temporary visa for international students who have completed at least 2 years of study from an Australian educational institution.

Basic Requirements

– Be under 50 years of age

– Make your visa application within 6 months of the date you receive your final result – Have a recent qualification in a CRICOS-registered course

– Have health insurance for the duration of your visa (OVHC)

– Have at least competent English

Graduate Work Stream Post-Study Work Stream
Duration of stay
You can stay in Australia for 18 months. You may stay for 24 months if your visa was granted after December 1, 2021.
The length of your stay in Australia will depend on the level of your Australian study qualification. · bachelor degree (including honours): 2 years · masters by research and masters by coursework: 3 years · doctoral degree: 4 years · Hong Kong and BNO passport holders who successfully complete a bachelor, masters or doctoral degree: 5 years

Other rights
It provides you and your family members a right to live, work or study along with the freedom to travel in and out of Australia for the duration of visa.

Eligible for other skilled work visas
You may be eligible to apply for a second Post Study Work stream visa (stay for 1-2 years). Requirement: · you must live, work and/or study in a regional area while holding your first post-study work visa. · That visa must have been granted on the basis of a degree or higher from an Australian institution located in a regional area. Eigible for other skilled work visas

Qualification
nominate 1 occupation on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) - have a degree, diploma or trade qualification closely related to that occupation
bachelor degree, bachelor (honours) degree, masters by coursework degree, masters (extended) degree, masters by research degree, doctoral degree - Your course must have been with an Australian education provider who is registered on CRICOS  and offer degree-level programs.
Skill assesment
Be assessed by a relevant assessing authority as having skills suitable for that occupation (this is not required for applications lodged between 1 July 2022 and 30 June 2023)
Australian study requirement
In the past 6 months before you applied for this visa you must have met the Australian study requirement. You will meet this if you are awarded at least one degree, diploma or trade qualification and: · you completed your course as a result of at least two academic years (92) weeks study  · your course was a CRICOS-registered course · you successfully completed all course requirements · you completed your course in Australia in not less than 16 calendar months When applying for this stream of the subclass 485, the course or courses must have resulted in a degree, diploma or trade qualification.
English language requirement
Overall score of 6 in International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a minimum score of 5 for each of the 4 parts - Overall score of 50 in Pearson Test of English (PTE) with a minimum score of 36 for each of the 4 parts - equivalent score in TOEFL iBT or in OET or in Cambridge C1 Advanced test

Replacement Stream

The Replacement stream was created to assist Temporary Graduate visa holders impacted by COVID-19 travel restrictions. 485 visa expired on/after 1 February 2020 can re-apply for a visa replacement visa (subclass 485) of the same duration as their previous 485 visa if they have been unable to come to Australia.

You may be eligible to apply for a Second Post-Study Work stream visa. To be eligible you must have studied on your Student visa in a regional area, and lived, worked and/or studied in a regional area while holding your Replacement stream visa. You might be eligible for other skilled work visas.

· Make visa application before 1 January 2027

· have held a relevant Temporary Graduate visa that was granted before 15 December 2021

· unable to come to Australia on the duration of visa due to Australia’s COVID-19 travel restrictions

· not have had your Temporary Graduate visa, or any visa granted after you held your Temporary Graduate visa, cancelled, unless it was cancelled because you asked for it to be.
